Within weeks, I'll be starting a PhD in UCD in Dublin. I'm delighted to be returning to university again. I'll be studying and researching for about 4 years as part of the Clique research project at UCD. I intend to blog everything about my research.
There'll be a few of us, at least a dozen I think, in the group altogether. I'll be looking at graphs, in particular really large graphs with many nodes, and trying to model them and how they develop. And I'll be writing the software to implement these algorithms, which will require efficient parallelization for the very largest graphs and datasets such as Facebook. That's my current understanding of my work at this preliminary stage.
I'm quite interested in any maths related to computers, and hope to look into other statistical problems branching out from this. For example, I have worked with Dr. Paul McNicholas on this paper looking at parallel implementations of gaussian mixture models.
